How to Store Premium Cigars in South Florida’s Humidity
| Cigar Valet Florida | For adults 21 and older

South Florida’s climate is warm and humid for much of the year. That is pleasant for an evening outdoors, but it means cigars need a little more care to stay in good condition.
The Target Range
Commonly recommended storage conditions are roughly 65–72% relative humidity and 65–70°F. Outdoor air in Miami and Fort Lauderdale is frequently warmer and more humid than that. Cigars left in the open can become soft, burn unevenly or, in rare cases, attract tobacco beetles.
Air Conditioning Helps
Indoor air conditioning lowers both temperature and humidity, so a humidor kept in an air-conditioned room is easier to manage. Keep it away from windows, appliances and air vents, where conditions change quickly.
Choose the Right Humidification
Two-way humidity packs add or absorb moisture as needed, and in already-humid homes they are often simpler than sponge-style humidifiers. A hygrometer, a small humidity gauge, lets you check the level instead of guessing.
On the Boat or at the Beach
Carry cigars in a sealed travel case or the humidified packaging they arrive in. Keep them shaded, and avoid leaving them in a hot car or a closed cabin. Our article on the best cigars for South Florida humidity covers which styles hold up well outdoors.
Signs Something Is Off
Cigars that feel spongy or damp are usually stored too humid. A cracking wrapper means the air is too dry. A fine white powder that brushes away easily (“plume”) is different from fuzzy blue-green mold; discard any cigar that shows mold.
